Sporadic Props

Postby 43se144 on Thu May 01, 2008 7:49 pm

Hi Greg & all, there have been some sporadic props around, which pop up at anytime thru the day or evening. I spend a lot of my down time (no DX) in the shed, which I have my Cobra 146GTL hooked up to a mobile whip mounted on the roof. You always have to keep an ear on the radio, just in case the band opens.

I have an old computer down there, running the ME OS. I have all my radio data & antenna programs installed on it. So I spend my time reading & using the antenna programs designing 11m antennas.

Looking forward to working my radio friends when conditions improve.

Great if if you have plenty of spare time - LOL

Postby AX05 on Sun May 04, 2008 1:47 pm

Hi Pete, that sounds like the way to do it for sure.

You just need a lot of spare time that I just cant seem to find though I do very little at all really. Or so my wife says, anyway.

It is amazing what a 2' high truckers antenna on a bit of coat hanger (on top of a book case) as a ground plane on my bedside Kenwood receiver can hear on 11mtrs!

Only get away with it because it has the clocks and an alarm that I can set for the wife to wake her up in the morn to the local AM radio stations.

When she gets up I switch it to #35LSB and sometimes 27.555USB

Will have to listen more on #35 LSB. I am on the road for the next few months beginning 1 June so will program #35 into my scan, so I can listen out while I drive.

FREQUENCIES I MONITOR

Postby 43se144 on Tue May 06, 2008 6:26 am

Hi all, I'm usually sitting on 27.155 lsb when the local 43 div props are open, there are too many brain dead morons on 27.355 lsb trying to out yell, swear & out talk each other. I also listen in on 27.335 usb, the 224 division, Kiribati Island Group inter-island chat channel. Plus our favorite 2 & 17 div chat channel, 27.385 lsb.

Thanks for the info. I will be traveling remote desert regions of Australia and Cape York and Canning Stock Route so if conditions turn favorable, and anyone is interested in logging calls to me from one of those locations, give me a try between June 1 and Sept 1 on Ch35. If I hear any activity, I will put out a call or two for sure. Then let's hope the International DX stuff kicks in with the increased solar activity soon.
